This chapter talks about what happens when people on either side of cultural differences interact. People think that their identity comes from cultural difference. When cultures clash, cultural differences are created. People define themselves through cultural differences. When cultural differences occur, there is communication through fear and withdrawal, strategies of persuasion and appeals to common values, the construction of sympathy or mutual self-interests, provocation, and improvisation.
